Amilcare Alberici, dressed in green coveralls and sandals, has farmer's hands and a warm smile, speaking Italian softly. His daughter, Arianna, a creative force who plays the viola, is more direct and emotive. Their Casalone farm, located in the Pianura Padana floodplain near Gualtieri, is surrounded by 11 hectares of vines, including Lambrusco Salomino and Fogarina. The estate's revival of the nearly extinct Fogarina grape began with the 2002 vintage, inspired by family friend Luigi Veronelli.

Their organic, 85% Fogarina and 15% Ancellota wine is frizzante, dry, with 10-11.5% alcohol, hand-harvested in October, and naturally fermented in the bottle, producing 4,000 bottles annually.

Food Pairing: Cured meats, aged cheeses, pizza, and tomato-based pasta dishes.
